Groundwork: Directing the Body to Access the Mind

How groundwork can create a two-way conversation between you and your horse, developing a supple and balanced body while simultaneously nurturing an engaged and focused mind. The main goal of groundwork should not be simply to direct the body, but rather to use the body to access the mind, creating connection, confidence and a clear communication between horse and human. I’ll explore equine psychology, physical signs that give insight to the horse’s mental state, and groundwork techniques and exercises to shape both the body and the brain.

Liz DeLuca has two major passions in life: horses and teaching, and the synergy between the two has resulted in DeLuca Equine, LLC.  She holds a degree in Equine Business Management from Cazenovia College where she competed on the equestrian team, has been a certified Centered Riding instructor, and runs a training and lesson business out of her farm in Hagaman, NY. She has had the privilege of interning and working with numerous world class horsemen, and has been training and teaching for over 15 years. Her pursuit of equine education has taken her all over; from working for a famed natural horsemanship trainer in Texas, to handling yearling thoroughbreds in Lexington, Kentucky, pursuing liberty training in Ohio, and taking classical dressage lessons in Portugal. Her fascination with equine psychology and shaping behavior has led to her specialization in groundwork, and she has presented at numerous local expos as well as teaching clinics throughout the northeast. Liz’s approach to horsemanship revolves around a strong groundwork foundation and developing leadership, trust and relationship simultaneously with proper body posture and biomechanics. She holds firm to her conviction that nearly all problems can be fixed on the ground, and that proper groundwork can positively shape both the mind and body of the horse. She believes that horses are constantly talking to us, we just have to be open and aware enough to listen.

    Morgen Bowers, Esq.

    Estate Planning for Equestrians

    Morgen & Molly

As an estate planning attorney and avid horseback rider, I understand the worries that often keep us up at night when it comes to our beloved equine companions. That's why I'm thrilled to be offering an Estate Planning Workshop for horse owners, where we will address the top three concerns that are crucial for securing the future well-being of your horses.

    - Incapacity: Plan for trusted care during your incapacity.

    - Passing Away: Ensure a loving home for your horse after you're gone.

    - Financial Security: Guarantee ongoing support for your horse's needs.

Topics we will also cover include:

    • What an estate plan is & why it is important for everyone, not just the wealthy

    • Why a Will is not enough to protect your minor children, you horse, or even yourself

    • What your estate plan MUST include to make it as easy as possible for your family after you pass

    • What Estate planning should cost & who pays the cost of a “cheap” plan

At this Estate Planning for Equestrians Workshop, horse (and dog) owners will gain valuable insights into addressing these top concerns and more. Don't lose sleep over your horse's fate. Learn more so you can have lasting peace of mind!

    ENYDCTA Organizer Class

    Purpose:

ENYDCTA is dependent on volunteers to continue and grow.  The purpose for this class is to train & jump start the development of organizer teams for ENYDCTA events.

    Goal:

To have a pool of organizers to maintain and develop ENYDCTA programs/events to prevent burn of a few organizers and to provide consistency as board terms change.  To have fun and meet other like minded people.

We want you even if you think you are disorganized.

Key difference between naturally organized people & disorganized people

    1. organized people are constantly looking ahead & anticipate things before they become urgent.

    2. disorganized people let life catch them off guard.

    3. Neither one is good or bad.  We all have our strengths and weakness.  You can develop the habits of an organized person even if you are “naturally” disorganized.

    Event Planner Guides

-ENYDCTA has event planner guides with a timeline that can help guide an organizer on things that need to be done to organize an event.

    Mentors

If you are new or already experienced in organizing, we can assign you an experienced organizer as a mentor.

    Fix-a-Test & Fix-a-Round

    @ SUNY Cobleskill

    INDOOR ARENA

Fix a Test & How it Works

You will ride your dressage test and after your final salute, you will have a mini session on how to improve your test scores for 25 minutes with the USDF L grad.

You have the option to re-ride the test again (before the 30 minutes are up) or just continue the session for more tips.  Only the first test counts towards placings.

Fix a Round & How it Works

A show jumping course will be constructed with the inclusion of individual fences, gymnastic line and designated flat work such as turn around the haunches and counter canter. The rider will school individual parts under some direction, and then perform a round. A qualitative score will be given and combined with the dressage test to determine score of the two phase. Help will then be given to shore up the difficulties and the rider will complete a second round.
